In massage therapy, a trained, certified medical professional (massage therapist) manipulates the soft tissues of your body — muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin. The massage therapist uses varying degrees of pressure and movement.

Massage is generally considered part of integrative medicine. Medical centers are offering it more and more as a treatment along with standard treatment. It may be used for a wide range of medical conditions. Techniques woven into the sessions include Swedish massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Active Isolated Stretching and more.

How to select for your first/next session:

**Duration**
Massage services are offered in 30-, 60-, and 90-minute sessions.

Shorter appointments are excellent for very detailed work in one or two specific areas such as the feet and calves or head, neck and shoulders.

Longer sessions let us address more of your body and still have enough time to focus on some specific areas needing extra attention.

**Type**
New client or not, too many options can be overwhelming. Here are a few pointers to make your selection(s) easier:

**First time in for a massage?**
Make sure to choose the "New Client" option based on the amount of time you prefer. Please account for an extra 15 minutes on the back end of your appointment as we will spend the first 15 minutes reviewing your intake form.

**Medical Massage**
Select IF you have a prescription from a doctor, dentist or chiropractor. Bringing in a prescription makes you exempt from sales tax (currently 7.8%).

**Non-Medical Massage**
You’ll still get the same great medical/holistic care, but you will also have to pay sales tax each time you pay.

In his book "Return to Life through Contrology," Joseph Pilates presents his method as the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout (not a therapy) when properly manifested. If practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the entire body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. The core, consisting of the muscles of the abdomen, low back, and hips, is often called the "powerhouse" and is thought to be the key to a person's stability. Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced or to any other level, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner's specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body adapts itself to the exercises.

In addition to talk therapy, somatic therapy practitioners use mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to help release the pent-up tension that negatively affects a patient’s physical and emotional wellbeing.

Practitioners of somatic therapy address what they see as a split between the body. Instead, they believe mind and body are intimately connected, though not always in apparent ways. Thought, emotions, and sensations are all believed to be interconnected and influence one another.
